Don't Give Up by xkappax Don't Give Up by xkappax
If you are an artist who has ever gotten a negative critique of their work, ever gotten a rejection letter, was ever rejected from a deviantart group, or was ever told that you should probably give up art because your stuff is "really not that good", this one's for you.

I personally think that every artist who isn't completely stuck on themselves has been there at one point or another. :)

I hope you like it. :)

Oh, and all this stuff is İHasbro and the makers of MLP. I claim no ownership. I"m just a fan. :)

Normally I'm the type of person who believes in positive quotes and if things get tough in life, there is always a way out. But when it comes to digital art, my harsh inner critic always seems to hit me hard that I forget about my beliefs and struggle and see the art as a chore that will always produce a piece of work that I end up hating.

I totally understand that. My inner critic is a completely jerk.

I used to be a terrible artist (my art teacher hated me) but everyone kept encouraging me. Seriously. Don't ever give up.

I kind of feel like my artwork gets hardly any feedback and that makes me sad. :( But this is really good and very cute to look at, and I will practice more. :)

Thank you so much. :) I actually want to redo this all the time because I'm not happy with how it came out, lol. I guess that's an artist thing, though. Definitely keep practicing, though. My parents used to push me despite the fact that my art teacher in grade school thought I didn't have any talent. I am now a professional tee shirt illustrator. So don't ever ever ever give up. :)

I agree, I'm trying to practice with Paint a Tool SAI it's a really good programme and at the moment I'm just doodling with it so I can get used to the shading and colouring. But I will take your advice I will not give up. :D

I use Manga Studio, which is REALLY similar to paint tool sai. It took me a long time to get used to it, but I eventually got the hang of it. Playing around with the programs is absolutely the best way to learn them. :) Shading and coloring took me forever to learn. I used to practice on my old Macintosh Performa computer... and the drawing program wasn't that great back then. :P

Yeah, Manga Studio is the same as Paint Tool SAI, I've just seen some images.

They don't make Sai for the mac, unfortunately, so Manga Studio was the alternative for me. Both are great programs, though. :)

I've never used gimp... in college we had photoshop and then the ad agency I started working for also had photoshop. I heard gimp is really good, though. :)

Hmm...I've been at that point. I was there for a long time actually. I saw how good every one else's art was and didn't think I could be that good. But I practiced a little and got to a point where I was doing better, and I even had my own style. :)
Who gave Applebloom that bad grade? The teacher should have a talking-to if it was a teacher. That's a cute painting. It's really hard to draw in painting, in my experience, and she did a good job.
Or you did a good job, rather. :XD:

thank you. :)

I think this is sort of a common problem for artists. writers. Anyone creative, really.

The man I work for at the tee shirt company said this to me: To compare is to despair. When you compare yourself to others, it can be a double edged sword. It makes you want to get better but it also frustrates you when you don't get good enough fast enough.

Basically, I just keep moving forward and I try not to hold myself to an unattainable level anymore. :)

I used to think that about my stuff, too. Heck, I went to art school and I wasn't really that good when I graduated. I worked really hard over the past 12 years and now I don't hate my stuff as much, LOL!

Seriously, though... don't give up! :)

my philosiphy is this, everything is art. no matter what you do or how differently it is done, it is done by a specific person. which means that from drawing a line, to playing music, to creating something as good as this, it is an art and all art deserves apprectiation! nobody should ever say anything bad even if its helpful critisim, because we were all at the same level once, and some progress farther than others faster. however, everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, and should hear these two words, "great job!"

"Rubbish?" Darn, Cheerilee, that's harsher than I expected from you. Unless the evaluation is from Applejack. I could see her being rather particular about the proper shape of apples. :)

I also like this one and it's message. I never really tried to join any group here yet but right now I'm in an artistic slump (what I do irl has to do with art so it's a constant up & down between appreciation and rejection) It's amazing how in this stage I came across this drawing. It really helped even if for a while. Who knew that a pony would bring me up again :D

THANK YOU for this♥

No, Thank YOU for your kind words. :)

I work at an advertising agency, so what I do in real life also has to do with art. I get the same way. Artistic slumps are bad. I was in one for about a year and a half. The best thing to do is don't force it, and just try to do things to stimulate creativity, like ... go for a walk by yourself and just look at things around you... listen to a song you like and sketch while it's on. things like that have really helped me.
